John Hanson Montessori School Chorus

John Hanson Montessori is a Prince George County Public Schools specialty school that features a unique program, the John Hanson Montessori Program. This program is extremely dedicated to helping children learn in an enriching environment that encourages individual growth through methods developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. In this enriched environment, students become self- motivated, independent learners who demonstrate respect for th selves, others and their environment. In addition, JHMS is also a green school as well as an Arts Integration school under the leadership of principal Zory Kenon III. In 2004, the JHMS Chorus was founded by Richard Schaadt. The following year JHIPE (John Hanson International Percussion ensemble) was created and shortly thereafter was adding it unique sound to the JHMS Choral program. JHIPE is a unique group with only one other school (Mrs. Schaadt) dedicated to performing world percussion at a high level as well as promoting the benefits of world drumming in music education. Students audition for the group and rehearse once a week. The Middle School Chorus is comprised of twenty-three members from the sixth to the eighth grade and they rehearse two to three timeSemper week. The John Hanson Montessori Middle School Chorus is known regionally for their energetic and diverse performances. Under the direction of Mr. Schaadt, they have performed at the State Level Maryland Assessments, The World Bank, and at the Leilani Live! performance at Bowie State University for Alzheimer research.
