James Kraft

Trombone and euphonium artist James Kraft earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Florida State University and a Master of Music degree and Doctor of Musical Arts from Catholic University where he studied with John Marcellus and Milton Stevens. He was trombonist and tour soloist with the U. S. Navy Band from 1968 until joining the New Orleans Philharmonic in 1972. Since 1976 he has been a member of the National Symphony carrying trombone, euphonium and bass trumpet responsibilities. Dr. Kraft has appeared as soloist and clinician at the U. S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium conference and at the Eastern Trombone Workshop. He teaches euphonium at the University of Maryland. He is cofounder and director of instrumental music for the Christian Performing Artists' Fellowship and has been on the faculty and board of directors for the MasterWorks Festival since its inception in 1997.
