Daniel Montenegro

An exciting and talented tenor, recent appearances include Mario in Daniel Catan Il Postino at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris alongside Placido Domingo, marking his European opera debut, and Pang in Concert performances of Turandot at the Hollywood Bowl, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Other recent appearances include N orino in Lelisir damore with the Merola Opera Program in San Francisco, and performing at the Sydney Festival as the Shepherd in Stravinsky Oedipus Rex under Joana Carneiro, directed by Peter Sellers. Projects in the 2012/13 season include Handel Messiah with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the role of Pong in style Turandot for The Dallas Opera. Daniel made his San Francisco Opera debut last season as Roderigo in Otello. His many appearances with LA Opera have included Gastone in La Traviata (also released as a Decca DVD), Maximino Mendez in the world premiere of Lee Holdridge Concierto para Mendez and El Dancairo in Carmen, a role he also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2008 at the Hollywood Bowl. Further performances for LA Opera include productions of LIncoronazione di Poppea, Luisa Fernanda, Il Tabarro and Die Gezeichneten. Elsewhere in the US, he has since performed the Steersman in Der fliegende Hollander with both Portland Opera and Arizona Opera, and is a former Resident Artist at the Minnesota Opera, where he performed Tamino in Die Zauberflote, Nick in The Handmaid Tale, Flavio in Norma and Liverotto in Lucrezia Borgia.
