Django Reinhardt

Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli were stars in the extremely popular French jazz quintet thatemperformed jazz and pop standards from the 1920s and 1930s. The ensemble became a Hot Club fixture in Paris in the 1930s and was the most successful and talked-about jazz group in Europe. Mr. Reinhardt, considered a guitar genius, created an original style of swing music and influenced jazz dancers and musicians for decades afterward. Swing Bands love to play “Le Jazz Hot” for avid swing dancers at special events to this day. For the past three years, a series of concerts highlighting the music and styles that Reinhardt and Grappelli played with such success in Paris and around the world has been produced by Pat Phillips and Ettore Stratta as the Django Reinhardt Festival at Birdland in New York. “Django Reinhardt was the brightest star in the constellation of the Gypsy Jazz genre that he created.” (Michael Dregni, Vintage Guitar magazine) February 2003
