This riveting Hip Hop theater play is a 90-minute rollercoaster down memory lane and an astute testimony to the role of women in Hip Hop. The genre, personified as a woman known as H.E.R (inspired by Common’s 1994 hit “I Used to Love H.E.R.”), is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and on her deathbed. The world seems to care little about the threat of losing her until five women of unlikely, diverse, and often opposing views show up unexpectedly at the hospital. Each with her own agenda, the women represent all elements and eras of Hip Hop—the good and traumatic.

Once just ideas and theories of sexual objectification, misrepresentation, and misogyny, the women now have names and real-life stories describing their pain, joy, and love. The group finds themselves conflicted on what decision to make; whether to keep H.E.R. alive or to pull the plug. Ultimately, H.E.R.'s fate lies in the hands of these women who have all professed that at some point in time they used to, or still do, love H.E.R. This is HERstory.

Recommended for age 14 and up. This production contains mature language.
Performance Timing: 90 minutes, with no intermission.
