About

Part of Chamber Music Across America

Violin and piano, wisdom and vigor, mother and son. All come together in this joint performance by stellar violinist Miriam Fried and her son, a rising star in his own right, pianist Jonathan Biss. Winner of the 2005 Leonard Bernstein Award and an Avery Fisher Career Grant winner, Biss is an enthusiastic chamber musician whose "great gift is the gentle soulfulness of his keyboard tone, a sound that arrives with a well-defined, center surrounded by a cushiony aura," says the San Francisco Chronicle.

For her part, Miriam Fried's contributions to chamber music go well beyond the genes she imparted to her virtuoso son. Winner of the Paganini International Competition in 1968 and later the Queen Elisabeth Competition, the New York Times calls Fried "more sensitive than the usual credential-laden prize winner. Her intonation is acute, her technique sure, and her sound rotund." Together Biss and Fried play a warm program of Beethoven sonatas, perfect for greeting the coming spring.
