A Note from Joseph “Yossi” Kalichstein, Artistic Director of Fortas Chamber Music
Created over the span of 30 years, this iconic six quartet set dates from Bartók’s early 20s to his tragic, forced departure from his beloved Hungary as a refugee fleeing fascism to find a new home in America. A worthy successor to the immortal Beethoven Cycle, these quartets are powerful, with uncompromising integrity, seething intensity, and profound emotion. We are so happy to have the Takács play these again for us, this time with a new violinist: Welcome, Harumi!
