Now ingrained in the Kennedy Center’s rich history, “the young American string quartet of the moment” (The New Yorker) enters its second season as our Quartet-in-Residence. Awarded the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2017, it is no surprise that the ensemble has been praised for its “expert musicianship” and “deep musical feeling” (Chicago Tribune). Equally at home in canonical repertoire as well as the newest reaches of contemporary classical music, the Dover’s program includes works by Ravel, Mozart, and our Composer-in-Residence Mason Bates.

I am biased: I can never hear enough Dvořák! So I am particularly grateful to this spectacular quartet for having included his last String Quartet—arguably his most Brahmsian and affecting. I am thrilled that these four have forged a special relationship with us, and it is always a joy to have them back, especially as they are partnering again with our unique composer-in-residence in a collaboration that is such a natural fit and enriching to the artists…and to us!
