National Symphony Orchestra NSO Summer and Capital Concerts

NSO Conductor Laureate Christoph Eschenbach returns to lead a program of Mendelssohn’s Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage along with his Violin Concerto, featuring dynamic violinist Ray Chen. The concert will conclude with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral.”

Conductor Laureate Christoph Eschenbach makes a grand return with rising star violinist Ray Chen, whose supreme talent, sense of humor, and social media savvy have been redefining what it means to be a classical musician. Not only does Chen’s musicianship transmit to a global audience in live performance, he has also appeared in Amazon’s breakout hit Mozart in the Jungle and struck a partnership with Giorgio Armani. This program features Chen in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto—one of the most popular of the intrument's repertoire—in an unforgettable performance.

Performance Timing: Part One - 36 min.; Intermission - 15 min.; Part Two - 40 min.

Organ Postlude: Thu., Oct. 11 performance followed by a mini-recital on the Kennedy Center Concert Hall's Rubenstein Family Organ, free with purchase of concert ticket.

NOTE: Ray Chen will sign CDs following the Friday, Oct. 12 and Saturday, Oct. 13 performances, in the Grand Foyer outside of the Concert Hall.
