Embassy of Japan presents
2019 National Cherry Blossom Festival Finale Concert

Ichiro Nodaira, piano
Sumire Hirotsuru, violin

The National Cherry Blossom Festival, an event in honor of Tokyo's gift of cherry trees in 1912, is the largest celebration of the Japan-U.S. friendship in the United States. As the Grand Finale to this year's festival, the Embassy of Japan invites you to join them for this rare opportunity to see acclaimed Japanese pianist and composer Ichiro Nodaira in concert. Coming from Japan for this special performance, Mr. Nodaira will perform original compositions as well as pieces that celebrate Spring. Distinguished violinist Sumire Hirotsuru will join him for the second half of the program.

Mr. Nodaira has composed over 80 works for orchestra, opera, chamber ensemble, and solo instruments. He is a professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts as well as Artistic Director of the AOI Concert Hall in Shizuoka City.

The Embassy of Japan is proud to host this concert in the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater, which holds a historical connection to Japan. In honor of America's Bicentennial in 1976, Japan made a philanthropic gift to the Center to support the building of the Terrace Theater.

Performance Timing: Part One - 50 min.; Intermission - 15 min.; Part Two - 50 min.
