ARTES DE CUBA: From the Island to the World

The award-winning orchestra conducted by Maestro José Antonio Méndez Padrón performs music by Cuban-born composers, to include contemporary works by Leo Brouwer featuring pianist Ulises Hernández and guitarist Alí Arango in his U.S. debut.

Cuba’s multi-Cubadisco Award–winning Havana Lyceum Orchestra, led by composer and pianist Ulises Hernández and directed by Maestro José Antonio Méndez Padrón, will perform music by Cuban-born composers. Two works by well-known contemporary composer, conductor, and musician Leo Brouwer—one of the most well-known contemporary musicians in the world—will be featured: "Bocetos para Piano” featuring pianist Ulises Hernández, and Concierto Elegíaco for guitar and orchestra featuring guitarist Alí Arango in his U.S. debut. Other Cuban composers highlighted on the program are Gisela Hernández, Carlos Fariñas, Guido López-Gavilán, Moises Simons, and Jenny Peña.

Every Thursday and Friday during Artes de Cuba from 9:30 p.m. to midnight, head to the Atrium after your evening show to enjoy spontaneous, free live entertainment with one or more of the artists featured during the festival! Purchase a cocktail at the Atrium bar, explore the visual art installations, and mingle with some of our very special guests in this exciting late-night lounge atmosphere. Please note capacity in the Atrium is limited each evening, so be sure to make your way to the Roof Terrace Level as early as you can.
