A Message from the President
Deborah F. Rutter
As we finally reopen just in time for our 50th Anniversary season, I’d like to thank each and every one of our patrons, visitors, Members, donors, and volunteers for continuing to support us over this past 18 months. The Kennedy Center is more than a memorial, a collection of theaters, or a landmark. It is first and foremost a community made up of artists, educators, administrators, and volunteers, but especially people like you who believe in the power and joy of the performing arts.
As we welcome you back to our halls and theaters with great joy, we are implementing thorough safety precautions throughout our campus to make sure your visit with us will be safe and comfortable. We are joining with other Washington theaters in requiring proof of full vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test to attend indoor performances. Masks are required at all times in all indoor spaces regardless of vaccination status. You can read the full details at Kennedy-Center.org/COVIDsafety.
Though the pandemic presented many challenges, it also gave us the opportunity to review our processes and see where we can improve them. So welcome to our new digital performance program! It’s a new way to deliver to you the same content as a printed program but in a convenient and contact-free digital format. This has many advantages: you’ll be able to read the program in advance of the event (and even get a peek at programs for events you may not be attending!), enjoy bonus content, and view it on your mobile device wherever you are. Even better, we’ll help the environment by saving 250 tons (literally!) of paper waste annually. We hope you will find this change a positive one as we move together toward a brighter future.
You can easily print out the digital program if you wish and, as always, large-print and Braille programs are available at every performance.
I’m so grateful we are able to gather again safely to experience the performing arts together. Enjoy the show!
