Joshua Banbury Vocal Artist

Joshua Banbury is an emerging, multidimensional vocal artist, and writer. He uses his facility as a classically trained singer for the stasis of his art. Banbury graduated with honors from The New School in the fall of 2019, having studied opera performance, vocal jazz, playwriting, and social science.

Today, he creates original operas, plays and audio/visual presentations. Currently, he is writing the libretto for his first opera The Illustrator, an original African fairytale, set to be released in 2021. The Illustrator has recently been selected to participate in Fort Worth Opera’s Frontiers' festival.

In addition to his writing, Banbury is a rising jazz vocalist and folklorist, set to release his first album of obscure American folk music this fall, sponsored by the National YoungArts Foundation, and expected to be housed in The Irving S. Gilmore Music Library at Yale University.

He has recently sung at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Glimmerglass Opera, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and Minton's Playhouse.
