Jules Buckley

Composer, orchestrator and conductor Jules Buckley is a musical pioneer who pushes the boundaries of contemporary genres. He is the Chief Conductor of Holland's Metropole Orkest, whose recent highlights include a Grammy Award for Sylva, their lauded collaboration with Snarky Puppy, as well as acclaimed collaborations with: Quincy Jones for the BBC Proms, Henrik Schwarz for the Amsterdam Dance Event, Wretch 32 and other UK Grime artists for the BBC 1Xtra Prom, Laura Mvula (a recording and live BBC Prom), Gregory Porter, Kurt Elling, Tori Amos, Markus Stockhausen, Michael Kiwanuka, UK house music duo Bas ent Jaxx and two Latin Grammy nominations. Buckley is also the co-founder the Heritage Orchestra, a flexible chamber ensemble, dedicated to performing new music with a daring approach to crossing and linking musical genres. The Heritage Orchestra has had a string of high profile performances including: the Vivid Festival at the Sydney Opera House with Live_Transmission (a Joy Division R ix project); the world premiere of Moroder Reworked - an epic electro-orchestral tribute to the 'godfather of EDM', which brings Giorgio Moroder from the club to the concert hall; a collaboration with UK singer-songwriter Anna Calvi which took th to the Holland Festival, Edinburgh Festival and David Byrne's Meltdown. They also appeared in James Lavelle's Meltdown, where they joined drum and bass icon and graffiti artist, Goldie, in an expanded and reworked orchestral version of Timeless (Sine T pore). In 2015 they impressed at the BBC Proms with the ‘Ibiza Prom' developed in conjunction with Radio 1's Pete Tong. This project is ongoing and they will play live arena dates in the UK and will release a CD of the material under the title ‘Classic House' in the autumn of 2016. Ever the musical agitator, Buckley's work has led to collaborations, recordings and live projects with an astonishing range of musical collaborators including Massive Attack, Arctic Monkeys, John Cale, eli Sande, Hollie McNish, Cinematic Orchestra, Caro erald, Professor Green, Beardyman, Chilly Gonzales, Tim Minchin, Benjamin Cl entine, Kamasi Washington, Christian Scott, Ibrahim Maalouf and Dizzee Rascal. Other highlights include orchestrating and conducting the score for the film, The 9th Life of Louis Drax (Dir: Alexandre Aja), as well as work with: the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with the UMO Jazz Orchestra; the Hamburg Ballett in collaboration with the NDR&Big Band and the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra; the WDR Rundfunkorchester and WDR&Big Band; L'Orchestre Nationale d'ile de France with Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson; the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in collaboration with Jose James; Rotterdam Philharmonisch with Dutch trumpet sensation Eric Vloeimans and a performance of the widely admired collaboration between Dino Saluzzi and Anja Lechner with the orchestra of NorrlandsOperan as part of Umeå Jazz Festival.
