Patrick Curtis

Patrick Curtis began lighting drama and music in the mid-1980s at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he also produced several set designs. He worked at the CAPAB Drama Company (now Artscape) from 1990 to 1995 as drama production manager, where he designed the lighting for many drama productions. After the d ise of CAPAB Drama, Mr. Curtis joined the University of Cape Town and taught lighting and set design at the Little Theatre. In the past nine years as the production manager of the Baxter Theatre Centre, he has lit and designed sets for numerous productions. For Cape Town Opera and UCT Opera School, Mr. Curtis designed the lighting for Don Giovanni at the Baxter Theatre Centre and Rigoletto at the Joseph Stone Auditorium, Athlone. He has won two Fleur du Cap awards for set design, for Uncle Vanya/Oom Wanja in 2004 and Betrayal in 2006. He was nominated for a Fleur du Cap award for his design in Lara Foot's Solomon and Marion. He also designed the sets for Doodsnikke, Long Street Nights, and The List, and was recently nominated for a Fleur du Cap award for his design for Mies Julie. Current as of March 2014
