Christian Elsner

Christian Elsner's outstanding lyric voice and musicianship enable him to brace all facets of a singer's art, dividing his time among orchestra, recital and opera performances.  This season includes active European touring, including the title role in Mozart's Idomeneo throughout Spain with Opera Mannheim, Adam Fischer conducting. Mr. Elsner’s career has taken him throughout  Europe, Japan and North and South America with some of the world's finest conductors in the major musical centers. Highlights of recent seasons include Mozart's Requi at Carnegie Hall led by Mariss Jansons, Haydn's Seasons in Copenhagen with Armin Jordan, Bruckner's F minor Mass at Vienna’s Musikvereinssaal, Schumann's Faust Scenes in Tokyo, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Leipzig with Herbert Blomstedt and in Minneapolis with Roberto Abbado, Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde in Munich with Christoph Poppen and in Feldkirch with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex in Dresden with Marek Janowski, Beethoven's Missa solemnis   in Hamburg with Christoph Eschenbach and in Stockholm with Carlo Maria Giulini. A dedicated Lied interpreter, Mr. Elsner has given recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, at Brussels’ Theatre Royal de la Monnaie, Lucerne’s Festspielhaus, Hamburg’s Musikhalle, Frankfurt’s Alte Oper, and at the Feldkirch Schubertiade, as well as at Ravinia, in collaboration with many exceptional pianists. His recordings include Schumann's Dichterliebe   and Liederkreis   and Mahler' s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen for Ars Musici, Schubert songs for Capriccio, Loewe ballads and songs by Z linsky, Lehar and Alma Mahler for CPO, Liszt's Faust Symphony for Chandos, Schubert's Schöne Müllerin for Naxos and Mahler's Lied von der Erde for Ofeo, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau conducting.  Mr. Elsner’s newest release is Schubert's Winterreise in a version for tenor and string quartet, arranged for Mr. Elsner, with the Henschel Quartet for CPO.
