Adriano Spampanato Pianist/Coach

Adriano Spampanato is a French-Italian pianist and vocal coach returning for his second season in the Cafritz Young Artists of Washington National Opera. Eager to explore every trend, his repertoire covers music from the 16th century to present day. Adriano’s artistic openness led him to record the organ music for Sacha Wolff's movie Mercenaire (screened at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight). He had the chance to perform all over Europe, Canada, Russia, and Japan. Adriano pursued his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, earning four Bachelor's degrees (piano, organ, choreographic accompanying, and musicology) and a Master’s degree with academic honors in collaborative piano. As an organist, harpsichordist, and improviser with a strong interest in baroque music, Adriano is regularly called to perform this repertoire he so loves as a soloist or continuo player. In 2019, he won the Special prize of the Art-Assembly and Tavricheskaya Chapel for the best rendition of baroque music, at M. Tariverdiev's International Organ Competition. He was appointed organist-in-residence at St Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA in October 2021.

Adriano has a profound appreciation for dance and gave a series of recitals focusing on Isadora Duncan’s repertoire alongside the French dance company Vlovajob, notably at the Musée de l'Orangerie (Paris) in Monet’s Water Lilies spaces, and at the Louis-Vuitton Foundation surrounded by Matisse's paintings. He also had the chance to perform with the famous choreographer Maguy Marin. Vocal music has the most significant place in Adriano’s artistic life as he devotes a major portion of his work to opera, choir music, and Art songs. Lately, he participated in the first SongStudio masterclass led by Renée Fleming at Carnegie Hall with soprano Axelle Fanyo, his privileged partner. Together, they won the Grand Prix Prince Rainier III of Monaco prize for singer-pianist duos at the 11th Nadia and Lili Boulanger International Voice-Piano Competition, and two other prizes including the Special Prize for the best interpretation of a Canadian song at Récital-concours international de mélodies françaises in Montréal, Canada. In addition, they joined the prestigious Art songs Académie Orsay-Royaumont. Thanks to this program, they made a recording of Duparc’s songs available on audio streaming platforms and subsequently performed internationally in concert halls such as Wigmore Hall (London), Salle Bourgie (Montréal), Orsay Museum (Paris), Barcelona and Montpellier Opera.

Adriano was awarded and has received endowments from the French Foundation (Drouet-Bourgeois piano prize) and the prestigious Zellidja scholarship from the Académie Française. He has also been granted the prestigious Fulbright scholarship. In NYC, Adriano worked as a pianist-organist at United Methodist Christ Church, Park Ave. He also had the opportunity to work as an assistant conductor at Opera North (Lebanon, NH) and recently conducted Lucio Silla and Silla with Chicago Summer Opera. Adriano continued to develop his career as a conductor during summer 2022 by joining Opera Saratoga as a conducting fellow.
