Unibeauty and Her Wicked Daughters

Unibeauty & Her Wicked Daughters is a dark comedy about the corporate highjacking of the U.S. Constitution. A perfect play for our current zeitgeist and the city of Washington DC, Unibeauty is a Health & Beauty company who is so proud of her civil rights achievements that she and her fellow corporations stage pageants to celebrate their progress. But when Hairless Witches serve her Class Action Curses she is forced to reckon with the true impact of her legacy.

This in-progress work is an effort to theatricalize and make playable the slippery abstraction known as corporate personhood and the civil rights movement that produced a new species of enchanted beings. It explores how the Fourteenth Amendment, written to give formerly enslaved people equal protection under the law, has instead been primarily used by lawyers, lobbyists and politicians to expand the civil rights of for-profit business corporations.

The residency at the Kennedy Center aims to further develop the script's dialogue, plot, and experiment with innovative staging and design.
