WNO Opera Institute at American University is an inspiring three-week summer training program for highly motivated high school singers and accompanists. Over 100 students from across the country and around the world audition every year; only about 30 are selected to participate. Throughout the course of the program, students take classes in opera history, ear-training and sight-singing, Italian diction, movement for singers, and acting. Students also participate in various workshops and master classes taught by leading international artists. WNO Opera Institute participants thrive on intense and focused curriculum geared toward preparation for college performance programs and beyond. The students featured in the Millennium Stage performance are selected by the faculty and excelled in areas such aSemperformance, professionalism, academic success, good attitude, and growth as a musician.
