Join us for a very special presentation of our Hip Hop Listening Sessions focused on love in hip hop! Whether it’s LL COOL J’s “I Need Love,” Method Man and Mary J. Blige’s “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By,” Common’s “The Light,” J. Cole’s “She’s Mine, Pts. 1 & 2,” Lil Wayne’s “How to Love,” Jay-Z’s “4:44,” The Roots’ “You Got Me,” A Tribe Called Quest’s “Bonita Applebum,” Salt-N-Pepa’s “Whatta Man,” Lauryn Hill’s “Lost Ones,” Eve’s “Love Is Blind,” Outkast’s “Prototype,” Black Star’s “Brown Skin Lady,” Ghostface Killah’s “All That I Got Is You,” or another classic hip hop track, love is an ever-present theme in the genre. Be it romantic, familial, friendly, communal, or love of one’s self or one’s craft, there is a song for it. As we celebrate and reflect on the ups, downs, and complexities of love as well as its vastness, come share your favorite songs and let’s listen together.

Our Hip Hop Listening Sessions: Love in Hip Hop Edition will feature panelists DJ Miss H.E.R, emcee and creative Nia Dinero; DJ Jahsonic, radio personality and member of 9th Wonder’s True School Corp DJ Face, and avant-garde emcee Javier Starks. It will be moderated by hip hop polymath and founder of the DC Music Summit Dior Ashley Brown with sounds by producer, engineer, DJ, and member of 9th Wonder’s True School Corp DJ Marc Nfinit. It will also be complemented by live visuals and a special performance set by Dior Ashley Brown, along with a live band highlighting classic hip hop love songs.
