The world’s 165 major rivers and thousands of smaller waterways connect human beings in innumerable ways. What happens to one—good or bad—affects us all. This floor installation by Cuban artist Raupa evokes that concept, intertwining the names of more than 400 rivers in a single flowing stream.

This crafted land acknowledgement commissioned by Mahogany L. Browne honors the displaced flourishing Black and migrant community of Foggy Bottom that once resided right where The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and The Watergate Hotel currently are.
